Düsseldorf the capital of the county of North Rhine-Westphalia and is situated north-west of Cologne. The city is situated on the River Rhine and is renowned as the fashion centre of Germany.

The Königsallee (nicknamed "Kö" by the locals) is the most famous boulevard in Düsseldorf and noted for the canal that runs along the tree-lined boulevard's center. Shops can be found on both sides of the waterway, as well as huge department stores and shopping complexes. Products range from luxury fur coats to high-end electronics. Some of the most reputed jewellery shops, designer labels and galleries have their stores here such as Cartier, Jil Sander, Gucci, Armani, Chanel, Prada and many others.

Düsseldorf has 6 Christmas markets, all of which have different themes and all of them are gloriously lit with thousands of lights in the evening. 

Take the chance to visit Dortmund, situated north-east of Düsseldorf, about 1 hour’s drive away. It claims to have one of the biggest Christmas markets in Germany, with over 300 stalls packed around a gigantic Christmas tree creation that stands 45 metres (135 feet) tall – reputed to be the biggest in the world. Made up of 1,700 individual fir trees, its 13,000 lights bathe the Christmas proceedings in a seasonal glow.

Our tour is based in the Mercure Düsseldorf City Center Hotel (German ****) which is located centrally between the main train station and Königsallee from where all the Christmas markets can easily be reached on foot.  All rooms have air conditioning and coffee/tea-making facilities.
